"Scrubs" and Colin Hay
Day after day it reappears
Night after night my heartbeat shows the fear
Ghosts appear and fade away
Come back another day

Episode 25, My Overkill (Season 2, Episode 1)

Colin Hay - Beautiful World
And still this emptiness persists
Perhaps this is as good as it gets
When you’ve given up the drink and those nasty cigarettes
Now I leave the party early at least with no regrets
I watch the sun as it comes up I watch it as it sets
Yeah this is as good as it gets.

25th of December

Let us not forget that today marks the birth of:

Jimmy Buffett - 1946

Rod Serling - 1924

Cab Calloway - 1907

Humphrey Bogart - 1899

Sir Isaac Newton - 1642 (Julian Calendar)

Most scholars agree that the precise birthdate of Jesus is unknown.
Historical research suggests earlier dates in the year.

Merry Christmas, just the same.

Winter Solstice

Today is the shortest day of the year and the longest night,
The first day of winter.
Tomorrow the days begin to get longer again.
Yes, summer will return!

Admiral Byng

English Admiral John Byng was court-martialled, condemned to death and shot on March 14, 1757 at Portsmouth, aboard HMS Monarch.
In 1759 the execution was satirized by Voltaire in Candide:

"Dans ce pays-ci, il est bon de tuer de temps en temps un amiral pour encourager les autres."

"In this country, it is wise to kill an admiral from time to time to encourage the others."

Oh, Banquet Not

By Thomas Moore

Oh! banquet not in those shining bowers,
Where youth resorts, but come to me;
For mine's a garden of faded flowers,
More fit for sorrow, for age, and thee.
And there we shall have our feast of tears,
And many a cup in silence pour --
Our guests, the shades of former years --
Our toasts, to lips that bloom no more.

There, while the myrtle's withering boughs
Their lifeless leaves around us shed,
We'll brim the bowl to broken vows,
To friends long lost, the changed, the dead.
Or, as some blighted laurel waves
Its branches o'er the dreary spot,
We'll drink to those neglected graves
Where valour sleeps, unnamed, forgot!
